What I Learned

image 017Through this project, I learned that in order to create positive and effective relationships, I have to be myself. Students can sense when a teacher is not authentic. I also have to find a way to build relationships that works best for me.  This will be something I experiment with throughout the rest of my years at Butler and my entire career as an educator.

I noticed through this project that the theories of relationships building image 018
complement what I saw in my observations. This is reassuring because while I had complete faith in what we were reading, I now know with absolute certainty that it is true. In my future courses I will be even more open to new educational theories because I know how correct they can be.

image 019I now know certain key elements that will enable me to build rapport with students. I should reveal details about myself, but I should not over share because it is important to continue to maintain a professional relationship. It is imperative that I work with students as an ally rather than against them. I should help students as much as possible and share power with them. Humor can create good relationships, but only if it is used appropriately. Lastly, I need to show students they matter not just to me but to the class, to the school, and to the entire world.image 020
