{"id":59,"date":"2014-04-15T10:47:52","date_gmt":"2014-04-15T14:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/?page_id=59"},"modified":"2015-04-09T18:46:09","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T22:46:09","slug":"teaching-experience","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/teaching-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Classroom Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through the College of Education (COE) at Butler University, I&#8217;ve been given lots of opportunity in the classroom at various schools as well as visiting other sites around the Indianapolis area that can build my background knowledge or can serve as potential field trips for future students.<\/p>\n<p>In my <strong>Intro to Education <\/strong>class (ED 112), we were able to visit a variety of schools for an hour to observe different types of institutions:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.herronhighschool.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Herron High School<\/a> (public charter)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msdwt.k12.in.us\/wl\/\" target=\"_blank\">Westlane Middle School<\/a> (public)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.avon-schools.org\/sycamore\" target=\"_blank\">Sycamore Elementary School<\/a> (private)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/60.ips.k12.in.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Butler Labaratory School<\/a> (public magnet)<\/p>\n<p>In my <strong>Core 2 block <\/strong>class (ED 241,242, 244) we took a much deeper look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isbvik12.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.isbvik12.org\/\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my <strong>Integration of the Arts<\/strong> class (ED 204) we were able to visit a completely Integrated Arts Elementary School, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kokomoschools.com\/Domain\/95\" target=\"_blank\">Wallace Elementary<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my <strong>Intro to Elementary Education<\/strong> class (ED 206) we spent the course of the semester visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/391.ips.k12.in.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">IPS 91<\/a> and were given individual children to work with, teaching them about a country and then performing a dance to family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve spent time\u00a0shadowing Marty Legge, a kindergarten teacher at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.midlandps.org\/sites\/wce\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Woodcrest Elementary School<\/a> in Midland Michigan.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_73\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/files\/2014\/04\/164.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73\" class=\"wp-image-73 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/files\/2014\/04\/164-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"164\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/files\/2014\/04\/164-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/files\/2014\/04\/164-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-73\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My students from IPS 91 holding their South African flags.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In my\u00a0<strong>Block A: Early Childhood Education<\/strong> class, I spent one day a week for the\u00a0entire semester\u00a0in Ms.Slagel&#8217;s classroom at the Butler Lab School. I had my own focal child and some research on literacy came from that experience, which can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/annieleclere\/documentation-work-samples\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In my\u00a0<strong>Block B: Middle Childhood Education<\/strong> class, we have had a variety of experiences working with children and in environments suitable for educating children.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For 5 weeks, I worked with a third grade student on mathematical problem solving relating to elapsed time problems at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pike.k12.in.us\/schools\/central_elementary\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Central Elementary School<\/a> in Pike Township.<\/li>\n<li>For 4 weeks, I worked with a group of third graders at an after school program at Central Elementary. We studied\u00a0water pollution.<\/li>\n<li>For 9 weeks, I worked with a group of fourth graders at Central Elementary. We studied Main Ideas in Nonfiction through the exploration of Inventions.<\/li>\n<li>I visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrensmuseum.org\" target=\"_blank\">Children&#8217;s Museum of Indianapolis<\/a>\u00a0for several weeks during my time in Block B.
