(He also has a practice in downtown Indianapolis at the Mass Ave Animal Clinic.) It was a great event with the usual attributes, cake, balloons, picture-taking, but there was also a very poignant moment that took me by surprise, when Dr. Phillips presented me with a toast.

It was so touching and heart-felt, I asked if I could share his remarks on this blog for my fans to read. Certainly, it’s a piece that makes me feel good, but more importantly, I think it illustrates the commitment and care I have received from Dr. Phillips over the years. Enjoy the read.

Dr. Kurt Phillips ’92 – Woodland Animal Hospital/Mass Ave Animal Clinic – April 13, 2013

I’d like to welcome you all here today to celebrate with Blue II as he sails off into a restful and relaxing retirement after nine great years of service to Butler University as our official mascot. I am so very happy to see all of you here today: friends, colleagues, clients, patients, family and Butler fans and supporters. It is an honor to play a small role in Butler’s mascot program and I am glad that you all came out today to support it and Blue II.

Nine years ago, I met Michael Kaltenmark and the new puppy that was slated to be the second official mascot for Butler. I had reached out to the university 2 years prior to that when Blue I was on the scene and offered to be her veterinarian. I had the most wonderful four years of my life attending Butler in the late 80’s/early 90’s and I wanted to give back to the University. I figured this was the best way I knew how to do that.

I was so thankful when Kelli Walker, Blue I’s caretaker, called me back to say that she would be delighted to bring Blue I up to Carmel from campus for her veterinary care. Blue I, as many of you know, was a cool dog, but her tenure at the University only lasted a few years. When Kelli decided to move to the west coast, Blue I went with her and luckily, her breeders (Frank and Jeane King) were willing again to donate a second puppy to the University. This is where Blue II, the dog we all know and love, came onto the scene.

From the start, this dog grabbed everyone’s attention and worked his way into our hearts. My family has such fond memories of hanging with Blue II at football and basketball games and events such as the Bulldog Beauty Contest. We remember the fun times having him in our home when Michael and Tiffany needed some time away. We loved coming to campus and seeing him roam around with Michael; always enjoying the love and affection of student and visitors to campus alike.

Blue II has been so completely successful in becoming “America’s Dog” mainly because of his awesome good looks, his wonderful temperament and his winsome smile. But in addition to these awesome qualities, Blue II has become everyone’s favorite mascot largely in part due to the amazing upbringing, training and love that he has been shown by the Kaltenmark family: Michael, Tiffany and most recently: “Master Everett”. Without this amazing family, Blue II would have turned out like any other college mascot: a dog in a kennel only shown to the public during halftimes of major sporting events. Instead, Blue II lives in a loving home with amazing people. He goes to work everyday to Butler’s campus (a place that I consider home) and he is surrounded by loving supporters every day, all day.

Blue II has attended countless sporting events from lacrosse games to soccer matches to being a mainstay at Hinkle fieldhouse for several amazing seasons of Butler Basketball. He has his own Facebook page and a Twitter account with more than 12,500 followers!!!! He has appeared on national television numerous times and has been highlighted in countless newspapers throughout the years. His popularity is mainly due to his personality and looks, but his dad, Michael has been integral in getting him this national recognition, and oh yeah. . . two back to back runs to the Final Four by our men’s basketball team surely didn’t hurt!

Throughout these amazing nine years, I have been honored and blessed to be a part of this dog’s journey. A deep friendship has developed between the Kaltenmark family and my own and for that I am eternally grateful to Blue II. I am so very proud of the moniker, America’s Dog, that has been bestowed upon Blue II and he deserves it. Blue II, not only our you “America’s Dog”, but I claim you as “my dog” as well. You are a part of my family, the Woodland Family and the family of so many adults and children who love you so very much.

So, it is without further adieu, that I would like everyone to raise their glasses to America’s Dog. May you sail off into retirement with the love and support of your family and friends, with your new buddy, Trip, at your side and a big rawhide bone to carry with you whereever you go.

To Blue II !!!!

Not much more to say to that, but thanks and cheers! Dr. Phillips, you’re the best!

Some dogs are deathly afraid of going to see the vet. I absolutely love going to see Dr. Phillips and his staff and now you can see why. Dr. Phillips always takes great care of me, so much so that I feel like I could keep on going as mascot. But it’s time to hang it up, so I’ll take my title as America’s Dog and enjoy watching Blue III (Trip) do all the work.

Cheers!

In honor of my retirement this year, my friends at the Butler University Bookstore decided to hold an academic contest, of sorts, with submissions coming in the form of a haiku. The Blue II Haiku Contest stood as an invitation for people of all ages to pen some prose about yours truly with a 5-7-5 syllable structure and potentially win some swag.

I’m pleased to report that haiku submissions have been read and my trusty panel of haiku experts have made their selections. The following people have won best haiku for their respective category and Butler fan, Linda Engle, is the “Best in Show” or overall winner.

For their efforts, the category winners will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Butler University Bookstore and our overall winner gets a brand new 16 MP Nikon CoolPix digital camera, complete with a 16 GB memory card pre-loaded with hi-res photos of me! Not bad for a little tickle of the keyboard, right? It pays to enter my contests.

My congratulations to the winners, listed below, and my thanks the more than 100 people who submitted an entry. I was impressed with your creativity, cleverness and wit. Now feast your eyes on these great works:

As I celebrate my ninth birthday and approach retirement (May 20, 2013) after nine years of service as official mascot of Butler University, I’m offering up yet more introspection…

As I celebrate my ninth birthday and approach retirement (May 20, 2013) after nine years of service as official mascot of Butler University, I’m offering up yet more introspection derived from my existence.

Inspired by Esquire Magazine’s “The Meaning of Life” issue and standing “What I’ve Learned” column, I’ve previously published such features of my own on two occasions. Being that they are original thoughts derived from the fabric of my life’s experiences, these words and ideas are still valid and thus, worth your consumption. You can access both of the entries listed below on this blog post.

Butler Blue II: What I’ve Learned (March 24, 2010)

Butler Blue II: What I’ve Learned – Second Installment (December 23, 2011)

Of course, similar prose exists as a result of interviews that I’ve done over the years as well. That said, you may remember the Proust Questionnaire that I completed for local marketing agency,Silver Square; and you may also remember that I added my two cents for Indianapolis Monthly some years ago.

Without further adieu, my third installment of “What I’ve Learned…”

Butler Blue II: What I’ve Learned (March 27, 2013)

Mascot, 9, Indianapolis

Butler’s mascot, America’s dog, shares a dog’s eye view on the eve of retirement after nine years of honorable service.

I knew retirement and transition were all a part of the gig, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t severely underestimate it.

Dragging me off the Hinkle Fieldhouse floor may have been necessary after the Changing of the Collar Ceremony if I wasn’t so obedient I love that place. Those basketball games are the best part of the job.

“It’s a long road to wisdom, but a short one to being ignored.” Pops listens to a lot of music and that lyric by The Lumineers has been echoing in my furry head for some time now. So simple, but so true.

Speaking as a being that is completely reliant upon the hand of humans, The story of the “Good Samaritan” needs to become required reading, for all of humanity. After all, what have you done to help a complete stranger lately?

If doing a good deed requires praise or notice from someone other than your own conscious, you’re doing it wrong.

Butler Blue III is proof that that youth is wasted on the young.

As much as I hate to say it, sometimes people just need to cut Butler Blue III some slack. He’s a pup. He’s a seven-year-old version of a you, and you went looking for trouble when you were seven.

It’s both nice and annoying to be so adored by your little brother. I didn’t ask for it, but at the same time, the kid could be a lot worse. It’s all peaches and cream for Blue III until the day Blue IV shows up. Then he’ll see.

My veterinarian recently noted that I’ve aged more in the last year than I had the previous seven combined. I can’t argue with that observation.

If my body would allow it, I’d never give up this gig, but then ignoring my body would contradict the wisdom I’ve gained over the years. From a quality of life standpoint and longevity’s sake, it’s time to hang it up.

I don’t get around as well as I used to, but I still make a point to get up and greet those special to me.

Who I am, the mascot I’ve become, is nine years in the making. People forget that. In some respects, Butler Blue III is further along at his age than I was. He’ll be just fine. Only time will tell if he’ll pass my wins, accolades, and decorations, but that has nothing to do with being a serviceable mascot.

I don’t know who originally said it, but “avoid biting when a simple growl will do” are some excellent words to live by.

I’m low to the ground. I see things from a different perspective, and what I’ve found over the years is that success lies in the details. I’m not saying you need to sweat the small stuff, but I am suggesting that you mind the little things. In an over-the-top world, it is the details that make all the difference.

Follow your instincts.

Do you ever notice how dogs never pretend to be someone or something that they’re not? It seems to work for us. Be genuine.

Another old dog proverb says, “If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.” As a stubborn bulldog, I can especially relate. And after all, “Bulldogs ever do or die!”

Loyalty. It’s not just for dogs.

Generally speaking, I have no regrets, but I still wish we could’ve captured one of those men’s basketball NCAA titles. While I wouldn’t trade those experiences for the world, that’s still sometimes a hard pill to swallow.

Butler University will move on without me, but I’ve cemented my spot in it’s history. Go Dawgs!

After our brief stint of TV glory at WHAS, we took the Built Ford Tough Blue Mobile a short mile through downtown to stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.

Nestled in the middle of Museum Row on Main in downtown Louisville, the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is instantly recognizable. Towering 120-feet into the air, the Big Bat separates the Slugger Museum from other, seemingly normal neighbors.

Meet our tour guide, Senior Rob Fenton!

Butler Senior Rob Fenton was a fantastic tour guide. He knew his stuff and Pops just ate up all the baseball history.

From this year’s Silver Slugger Awards to wax figures, unfinished billets, an order of bats for Brandon Moss of the Oakland Athletics, to an old-school working lathe, to laser guided machines, and even the original Babe Ruth model bat in the bank vault, we saw it all and it was pretty darned cool.

My own, personalized Louisville Slugger!

Much love to Louisville Slugger for not only giving us the VIP treatment and tour, but for the personalized bats. So cool and something you can get to, by checking out their special order site.

If you’re in Louisville and have any appreciation for baseball, wood working, or history, then a stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is a must!

It was just a great experience and one that is perhaps best summed up in pictures. Check out some of my shots from the experience.

One day it’s The Huffington Post regarding my social media prowess, as noted by the Shorty Awards, and a day later it’s Mashable on Butler Blue III and my desire to impersonate “Thelma and Louise,” a la the Big Dawgs Tour.

I can’t make this stuff up.

Now keep in mind that The Huffington Post boasts a Pulitzer Prize and was ranked #1 on the 15 Most Popular Political Siteslist by eBizMBA. Meanwhile, Mashable not only one of the world’s larges websites, but the leading technology blog and is hugely influential with more than 2 million monthly unique visitors and 5 million monthly page views. So just slightly more than my blog.

And this all begs the question, what did your college mascot do this week?

There I was, minding my own business, doing what I do best, sleep, and Pops (Michael Kaltenmark/@MSKaltenmark) woke me up. 4am. He woke me up at 4am!

It was time to hit the road. The Big Dawgs Tour is finally underway.

So he loaded Butler Blue III (Trip) and I up, we picked up our colleague Tom Otero (@lockebyproxy) and before I knew it, the Built Ford Tough Blue Mobile had taken us from Indy to our first destination: Louisville, Ky.

Lynn’s Paradise Cafe

With such an early departure there was a lot of stomach growling by the time we got to Louisville, so as soon as we hit the Kentucky border, we made a stop at Lynn’s Paradise Cafe. Trip and I charmed the locals and took photos as the guys ate their breakfast.

This guy is totally my style.

Patti Nickel of the Lexington Herald Leader said of Lynn’s:

“If Salvadore Dali and Dolly Parton were to team up to open a restaurant, they might come up with Lynn’s Paradise Café”

Art museum or restaurant?

Lynn’s is such a fun little place with wild and energetic decor. Opening in 1991, Lynn’s Paradise Cafe has been showered with almost as many accolades as me, including Esquire Magazine‘s “One of the Four Most Fun Restaurants in America” as well as being featured in articles from Southern Living, USA Today, The New York Times, Bon Appetit and The Atlantic Monthly.

It’s also been featured on “Best of” on the Food Network, CBS’s “Travels with Harry” and “The Oprah Show.”

If you go to Louisville and pass up a chance to eat at Lynn’s, then I’m not sure how you can live with yourself. Go there!

WHAS Great Day Live

Our next stop was at WHAS Channel 11 for their fun morning show, Great Day Live. Go ahead and watch our Peabody-worthy interview from Great Day Live.

http://www.whas11.com/great-day-live/video/Butler-Big-Dawgs-tour-hits-Louisville-185057431.html

Talk about a fun interview! Great hosts, got in a dig at IU, and afterwards, we were stopped multiple times on the streets of Louisville by those who had seen us on the show that morning. They loved it!

Oh, and wouldn’t you know it, the University of Louisville Cardinal was in the studio to preview their big game with the Kentucky Wildcats, so of course, we made sure to grab a little photo with him. Nice little birdy, that Louie.

Louisville Slugger

The Louisville Slugger Museum was the highlight of our stop in Louisville and thus, merits its own post. You can read that post very soon!

Churchill Downs

The Law Firm of Blue, Blue & Barbaro

After the Slugger Museum, we decided to pay our respects to another famous animal, Barbaro, at Churchill Downs.

You may remember Barbaro and his decisive Kentucky Derby victory in 2006, only to be followed by a nasty leg-break in the following race, thus ruining his chance of a likely Triple Crown.

Broken leg or not, Barbaro had already captured the hearts of America, a little something I know about now in my old age as well. Rest in peace, Barbaro. You’ve earned it.

And with that, we were back on I-65 and pointed south for Nashville. Oh, so much more we could’ve done had we more time to kill in Louisville, but we’ll have to save that for another visit.

Our thanks to those who showed us such great hospitality in Louisville. We had a wonderful visit!

As you well know, Trip and I are in the midst of the biggest dog-related event in the history of Butler University, The Big Dawgs Tour. On each leg of the tour, at least one lucky person can win a personal visit from us. So yeah, you might want to register for such a visit. We want to come visit you!

Nashville

Meet our first contest winner, John Couture! John welcomed us into his beautiful Butler-decorated, Franklin, TN home for a well-earned Big Dawgs Tour visit. The Couture family invited us into their home, territory of their French bulldog, Mojo, for some quality petting time.

Trip may have stolen Mojo’s bone, but aside from that, it was a great visit. By great, I mean I got some serious loving the entire time we were there! That’s a home run in my book. Thanks for the hospitality, John, and congrats!

I’m excited to share some big news as the year comes to a close and the month of December begins; my new website has been launched and I’m going on tour!

ButlerBlue.com

ButlerBlue.com is live and will serve not only as my new site, but the online home of Butler University’s entire live mascot program, so you’ll be able to find Butler Blue III (Trip) related content there as well.

Speaking of site content, there’s a lot of great stuff including a lot of free downloads in the “Doggie Bag,” but perhaps the most noteworthy are the pages related to Big Dawgs Tour.

Big Dawgs Tour

Announced on Friday, Dec. 7, the Big Dawgs Tour won’t actually see the Built Ford Tough Blue Mobile pull out of 46th & Sunset until Dec. 28, bound for Louisville, Ky and Nashville, Tenn. That’s the first of four legs, which, all told, will take Trip and me to places like Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and more as we follow the Butler men’s basketball team along their Atlantic 10 schedule.

Hey, it’s the first time that the team will be playing those markets as A10 participants, so why not make a splash when the Bulldogs come to town? That’s why they’re sending us, the “Big Dawgs.”

You’ll want to follow us on these journeys as we’ll be making a point to hit some iconic landmarks, roadside attractions, and tourist traps. All the while, we’ll be tweeting, blogging, posting and essentially taking you along for the ride.

Big Dawgs Tour Contest

On the topic of coming with us, well, you can’t because there just isn’t enough room in the Blue Mobile, however, that doesn’t mean we can’t come see you. Yep, just imagine your door bell ringing and waiting outside are two of America’s finest looking bulldogs. It could happen!

After all, if we’re going to get out of the office and hit the open road, then we might as well get everyone involved. So, we created the Big Dawgs Tour Contest which features two ways to enter and two ways to win.

Personal Visit:

If you live along one of the Big Dawgs Tour routes, you can enter to win a personal visit from Trip and me, where we could come to your house, pose for pictures, raid your kitchen and be on our way.

Tour Swag Bags:

Our travels our limited to just one section of this great nation, thus, not everyone can enter a chance for us to come see them, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely out of the mix. We’re taking quite a bit of swag to give away and share when we go on tour and well, we have some extras. So no matter where you live, you can enter to win one of 10 Tour Swag Bags that we’ll be giving away.

These bags include a limited edition Butler Blue canvas bag, Tour t-shirt, poster, autograph cards, a cutout, and more.

Follow Us

So go ahead and take two minutes to sign up for one or both of these contests. Then just patiently wait for the Tour to commence on Friday, Dec. 28 and follow along on Twitter (#BigDawgsTour), Flickr, Instagram, ButlerBlue.com and elsewhere.

The 24 Hours of Booty is coming to Butler University – June 29-30, 2012; 7 p.m. – 7 p.m.!

Yes, I just used the word, “booty.” No, this is not a round-the-clock, pirate-themed party that I’m hosting. And no, this is most certainly not risqué, although it could be depending on how you present yourself in Lycra.

Actuallly, 24 Hours of Booty is a 24-hour road cycling charity event designed to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for the LIVESTRONG Foundation as well as a local charity, which for Indianapolis will be the Indiana University Cancer Center.

In other words, this is an opportunity to ride your bike, with friends, on a closed circuit, close to home, over the course of 24 hours, and all while raising money to defeat cancer. Need I say more?

I probably don’t need to say any more, if you just watch this video and visit this website.

Butler University is the host and site of “Bootyville” and Indianapolis’ Booty Loop will be a 3.5-mile route that runs through Butler’s campus and the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood.

So you know that Blue III (Trip) and I will be in attendance to welcome the riders and support the cause. Sure, I’m going as a Butler ambassador, but also to represent my friends and counterparts with cancer, including @FalcoTheBullie and the late, Uga VIII.

Who gets to wear the jersey?

Speaking of supporting the cause, there are some things I want you to consider.

Sign up and ride your bike!

Tell your bike-riding friends

Start a team

Volunteer, whether you plan to ride or not

Get your employer or corporate connections involved

Attend the 24 Hours of Booty social and info session on Tues., April 24, from 6-8 pm at Creation Café/Euphoria (upstairs). Beer and wine is complimentary and signing up for 24 Hours of Booty while at this event includes a discount!

And here’s what you need to know:

What it will look like when you're riding behind me.

Individual rider registration is $65, but remember, attend the social on Tues., April 24 and that rate will be discounted. There is also a $200 minimum fundraising goal for each rider.

You don’t ride your bike for 24 hours straight. That’s why Bootyville exists and where I’ll be hanging out. Warm food will be served, and there will be energy bars, snacks and drinks galore. Oh, and if you ever wanted to camp on Butler’s campus, now is your chance.

This isn’t a race. Riders of all levels are welcome and 24 Hours of Booty folks offer some safety, training and technical information.

This is sure to be a fun event so I think you should mark your calendars and make plans to attend and participate. You can get the process started by attending the social/info session on April 24th at Creation Café/Euphoria.

Ride on!

I don’t even know what what madness means, but it’s March and I’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s get right to it.

Shorty Awards

Finally, the Shorty Awards ceremony has arrived. Held in NYC, the fourth annual, sold-out event will air online this evening at 7:30 p.m. I’ll be watching to find out if I have won the Shorty Award for the best use of short form media in the College Category.

You may remember that about a month ago I took the the popular vote in the category, thanks to my friends and followers who rallied around me and got me atop the list, which includes the likes of Queens College of Charlotte, University of Florida, Roanoke College, Boston University and Syracuse University.

Here’s to hoping the Shorty Awards Academy gives me the nod for sweep the College Category!

Happy Birthday to Me!

March 27, 2004 started it all and so tomorrow, I’ll be celebrating eight great years on this earth. However, thanks to the great students in the Butler University Student Foundation and my buddies at Holy Cow Cupcakes, the partying has been going on for a while now. This past Friday, the aforementioned held my annual campus birthday celebration at the university Starbucks and Bookstore.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and fans came to wish me well and for their efforts, they were sweetly rewarded with Holy Cow Cupcakes. Not a bad deal, eh?

Plus, in lieu of gifts, this year I asked folks to bring in dog toys, supplies and food for those pups less fortunate than me and Butler Blue III. The response has been great and it looks like our friends at the Indiana Bulldog Rescue and the Humane Society of Indianapolis are going to reap the rewards. There’s still time to contribute, so feel free to drop things off at the Butler Bookstore this week. They’ll know what to do with it.

The birthday celebration has continued since Friday and frankly, I’m milking this for all it’s worth. So let the showering of love and attention continue!

Bulldog Jog

Speaking of celebrating, Saturday marked a couple of milestones as the Butler HRC hosted the 20th annual Bulldog Jog 5K run and established the inaugural 1-mile Dog Walk. The event was a huge success with nearly 700 (almost 200 were dog walkers) participants!

Of course, I was the grand marshall of the dog walk and I let Butler Blue II tag along as we led our fellow canine friends through campus aboard our Burley Trailers Tail Wagon. What, you think I’m actually walking a mile? Forget about it.

This event as also another opportunity to help the Indiana Bulldog Rescue and the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Both groups were present for the event and we even had a rescue bulldog find a new home and family that morning! Too cool.

Both the 5K and dog walk were great successes and planning has already begun for 2013. The future looks bright for the Bulldog Jog, but we need your feedback to be successful, so don’t hesitate to speak up.

Bulldog Jog 5K results have been posted and pictures are coming soon.

Special thanks to my good friends at Holistic Select and City Dogs Grocery for making this inaugural Bulldog Jog Dog Walk a reality and success.

Pinterest

Talk of pictures reminds me to inform you that Butler University is now on Pinterest! I’m not even going to begin explaining Pinterest, but here’s what’s important about Butler’s new profile…there’s a board on there titled, “Butler Blue II & III in the Wild.” You go to that board, read the instructions on this pin, and post your pics of me, Trip and the Blue II Mobile.

Between my birthday party and the Bulldog Jog, I took countless pictures with people. So I better start seeing more pics posted on there!

Mashable

Friday, March 23rd happened to be National Puppy Day so in honor of the occassion, Mashable released their “Top Ten Dogs to Follow on Social Media.” I’m proud to report that “yours truly” was ranked as No. 5 on the list!

Consider that Mashable is one of the world’s largest websites and pretty much the standard in social media reporting, and this is kind of a big deal.

In Honor of a Hero

You know who else is a big deal? The Kool-Aid Man, that’s who. The red drink-filled pitcher of a fella has long been a hero of mine, what with all of the jumping through walls and yelling “Oh Yeah,” while doing it.

In honor of the Kool-Aid Man, I made this little tribute to him utilizing some abandoned cardboard boxes laying around the workplace. Enjoy!

Brad Stevens

Ever heard of him? He’s of course the Butler University Men’s Basketball head basketball coach and one heck of a guy. The last couple of years around this time, larger schools usually come calling with big checks, looking to court Brad to lead their program. Once again, Brad has declined such offers and made it public last night that he’ll be keeping his post at Butler.

Typically I keep my nose out of this sort of thing, but I feel the need to just say a couple of things. First, all you other schools can go looking up another tree. I lift my leg in your general direction. And lastly, money isn’t everything.

Sure, Brad Stevens is handsomely paid, but compared to what some of these schools are offering, it’s peanuts. There’s a lesson in there for all of us.

Help Haiti Heal

It’s “Help Haiti Heal Week” at Butler and I just wanted to call your attention to how a group of Butler students have committed themselves to helping Beau Champ, Haiti gain access to clean water. Here is some additional scoop on that: http://hhhbutlerchapter.blogspot.com/2012/03/help-heal-haiti-week.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Great job, guys!

Alumni in the News

I would be remiss not to mention a couple notable alumni making news this week. Butler grad Thad Matta has once again taken his Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team to the NCAA Final Four. We wish Thad and the Bucks all sorts of Bulldog luck this coming weekend in New Orleans. Just goes to show you can try to keep Butler out of the Final Four, but it can’t be done. In fact, we almost got two grads in, with Scott Baylor leading the Baylor Bears all the way to the Elite Eight.

Also, 2003 grad, Ed Carpenter started his eighth Izod IndyCar Series season this past weekend in St. Petersburg, Fla. The big difference for Ed this year is that he owns his own team (Ed Carpenter Racing) thanks to backing from Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka. Look for Ed and the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Special this Sunday on NBC as they race the Grand Prix of Alabama. Won’t be long and Ed and his colleagues will be turning laps at Indy in preparation for the Indianapolis 500. Let’s see if Ed can be the first Butler grad to win that thing! Go Ed Go!

Okay, that’s enough from me. Thanks for reading along and I hope to see you around.

Go Dawgs!
