Blue II’s Birthday & Retirement Party<\/h3>\n

B<\/span>utler Blue II (Blue) will celebrate both his ninth birthday (3\/27) and his ninth year of service (5\/20) on Friday, March 29, 2013.\u00a0Held by the Butler University Student Foundation, and hosted in Atherton Union by the Butler University Bookstore,\u00a0Blue’s birthday\/retirement party is open to the public and will last from noon to 2:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Blue II participated in his last home Butler Men’s Basketball game on March 9, 2013, where an official “Changing of the Collar” Ceremony took place between he and Butler Blue III. A review of this new University tradition is available in the\u00a0Butler Newsroom<\/a>\u00a0and a video of the event<\/a> has also been posted for viewing.<\/p>\n

\nIn celebration and observance of Blue’s big day, special merchandise will be available, Bookstore discounts offered, and contests being held. Additional information on these exclusive, limited time offers are detailed in the menu below.<\/p>\n

In addition to the host of Blue II merchandise currently available at the Butler Bookstore, two additional items will be sold for a limited time only, while supplies last.<\/p>\n

\"BlueNo. 9 Poster<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first item will be the special edition “No. 9” poster, honoring Blue II’s nine years of service to Butler University as official mascot.<\/p>\n

This collage of photography through the years, comprises a No. 9 and pays tribute to “America’s Dog,” and Butler’s mascot. These collectible posters will be available starting March 9, 2013 at the Butler Spirit Shop and Butler Bookstore, as well as online for $4.95.<\/p>\n

Evolution of a Mascot Tervis Tumbler<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Butler<\/a>Available beginning March 29, 2013, the special edition Blue II, “Evolution of a Mascot,” Tervis Tumbler is a must-have for any Blue II fan. The 16 oz tumbler, with lid, features cute imagery of Blue’s evolution as a puppy to\u00a0adolescence, adulthood, and life as a mascot.<\/p>\n

Retailing for $19.00, the “Evolution of a Mascot” Tervis Tumbler will be available at the Butler Bookstore and online.<\/p>\n

There will be two ways party guests can receive a 20% off coupon, good for one item in the Butler Bookstore that has a bulldog image on the item.<\/div>\n
To obtain the coupon on March 29, 2013, party attendees must complete one of the following items:<\/div>\n

  1. Make a gift to the Bulldog Memorial project, a part of the current Senior Class Gift campaign<\/a>, and\/or;<\/li>\n
  2. Bring an item for donation to the Indiana Bulldog Rescue, which may include dog food, toys, crates or other supplies.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Volunteers will be on site at the party to collect your gift in return for the 20% coupon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    <\/i>Blue II Portrait<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n

    \"James<\/a>Local Indianapolis artist, James Kelly of Mad Lab Studio<\/a>\u00a0(pictured), will unveil a portrait of Butler Blue II in honor of the mascot’s nine years of service.<\/div>\n
    A distinguished artist who often produces pet portraits, Kelly’s will donate his 2.5′ X 3.3′ painting of Blue to the University as a gift, which will be then permanently displayed on campus in a location to be determined.<\/div>\n
    Kelly will be in attendance at Blue’s birthday\/retirement party to unveil the portrait and answer questions about the inspiration and craft behind it. It is certain to be a historic moment in Butler’s live mascot history.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    <\/i>Official Collar<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n

    \n
    \"ReisNichols\"<\/a>After devising a plan to hold an official Changing of the Collar Ceremony to signify the transition between Butler Blue II and Butler Blue III as acting lead mascot, a need for an official collar arose.<\/div>\n
    Local Indianapolis jeweler, Reis-Nichols answered the call and has constructed a new official Butler Blue collar. Starting with a blue leather base, the new custom-built collar features sterling silver embellishments including the University seal, athletic logo, Butler Blue logo and mascot names.The piece will be debuted at the Butler Men’s Basketball game on March 9, 2013 for the ceremony and on display at Blue II’s birthday\/retirement party.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
