The Butler women’s golf team finished last in the 6-team field at the Big East Championships in Callawassie Island, South Carolina. The Bulldogs carded a +127 as a team and finished in last by 33 strokes.

The Xavier Musketeers won the 54-hole event with a team score of +38, beating Georgetown by 14 strokes. Seton Hall finished in third followed by St. John’s, Creighton and Butler.

Senior Lauren Tibbets finished her Butler career in a tie for 18th individually. The former Big East champion carded a top-five round of the day in the second round with a 2-over 74 but two other rounds in the 80s kept her from being in contention in the final round. Butler’s Katelyn Le also finished in a tie for 18th, carding her best round of the tournament on the final day with a 4-over 76. The 76 tied the sophomore’s best round of the season.

The other three Bulldogs in the starting lineup struggled mightily over 54 holes. Megan Skoog, Claire Edwards and Ally Ross together carded nine rounds of 83 or worse and they took up the bottom three spots on the individual leaderboard.

The individual title belonged to Xavier’s Mikayla Fitzpatrick. A former Big East Freshman of the Year, Fitzpatrick sat in second after the first 18 holes and backed that up with a round of 68 in round two and 73 in the final round to take home a 9-shot victory.

The Big East Championships marks the end of the season for Butler women’s golf. The team grabbed three team victories during the 2018-19 season at the Butler Fall Invitational, Savannah State Spring Fling and the Big Four Classic. Tibbets led the team with a 75.71 scoring average during the regular season.
