{"id":3549,"date":"2020-03-30T13:32:43","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T18:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/butler360\/?p=3549"},"modified":"2020-03-30T13:32:43","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T18:32:43","slug":"butler-mens-club-lacrosse-lost-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/butler360\/2020\/03\/30\/butler-mens-club-lacrosse-lost-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Butler Men\u2019s Club Lacrosse Lost Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Andrew Wagner<\/p>\n<p>Recently the Butler Men\u2019s Club Lacrosse team\u2019s season was cancelled due to Covid-19.\u00a0 This would have been their first year competing in the NCLL after rebuilding the past four years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the Butler Men\u2019s Club Lacrosse team was facing major financial troubles.\u00a0 A former coach spent more money on apparel and gear than the team had in the budget.\u00a0 This caused the team to go into debt charging dues at $500 in 2017.\u00a0 The dues would get them four games and a uniform.<\/p>\n<p>Since then the club has only grown and improved.\u00a0 In 2018 Aidan Dowdy and Nick Adams were elected Co-Presidents.\u00a0 As president Dowdy had the goal to build a team setting, rebuild the club\u2019s reputation, and be competitive in games.\u00a0 Dowdy had been reelected president two more seasons and ends with a final record of 1-7.<\/p>\n<p>What the record doesn\u2019t tell is the massive improvements the club has made in that time.\u00a0 His first-year total team size was about 18 people.\u00a0 This made it very difficult to get a team to play games and practice.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t unusual for the club to have to cancel games or play with opposing players on their team.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the team grew to more than 40 players.\u00a0 Practices now consistently had eight or more people attending compared to four or five in 2017.\u00a0 They grew to playing 12 games a year and were even invited to the Cardinal Classic in the fall and the Midwestern Invitational in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Dowdy had high hopes for the first year in the National Collegiate Lacrosse League, but he will never get to play in the league he lead his club to join.\u00a0 Dowdy\u2019s passion for the club came from his love of the team setting.\u00a0 Before coming to Butler Dowdy played in Florida for seven years.\u00a0 His high school got its first lacrosse program when he was in 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade.\u00a0This allowed Dowdy to get a lot of experience with building organizations and made him a great president for the Men\u2019s Club team.<\/p>\n<p>Dowdy said his favorite part about the club was how it began to feel more like a team as the years went by.\u00a0 He enjoyed how lifelong players and new players were able to play and have a common love for the game.\u00a0 He also enjoyed the club\u2019s feeling being more like, \u201ca slightly more laid-back summer league.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Dowdy wanted to leave with, \u201cThe team has grown a significant amount these past two years and I couldn\u2019t be any prouder of how far we\u2019ve come.
