First, let’s take a look at some of the players hitting the portal for the Dawgs this season.

Starting shooting guard, DJ Davis, will be entering the transfer portal while also testing NBA Draft waters this upcoming May. Davis was the team’s second leading scorer averaging 13.5 points per game while making just over 2 threes a game. He was also the best free throw shooter in the country and helped lead the Dawgs to be a top 10 free throw shooting team in the country. Davis was a big reason the Dawgs offense was so good at the beginning of the year, but as he struggled down the stretch so did the team.

The other player entering the portal for the Bulldogs is Connor Turnbull. Turnbull showed tons of promise early in the season with freakishly athletic plays, but an injury sidelined him for the rest of the season and he never got to show his true potential as a Bulldog.

Now let’s look at some of the players Butler is targeting this offseason.

One player repeatedly mentioned on Twitter for the Dawgs is San Jose State guard, Myron Amey Jr. The 6’2 guard led the Spartans in scoring with 15.7 points per game as well as securing just over 5 rebounds a game at the guard position. Amey can step in for Davis and help the team get their offense back on track.

At the center position, the Dawgs are talking to multiple different players, but let’s focus on the player with the highest upside. William Kyle III is a highly coveted player who has athleticism that would excel at the Big East level. Kyle helped the South Dakota St Jackrabbits to the NCAA Tournament and had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in their lone game against the Iowa State Cyclones.

The Butler Bulldogs are coming off a solid 18-15 season that put the Dawgs in postseason play for the first time since 2019.
