Now that the portal is officially closed, the Butler bulldogs will have a little more clarity on their roster for next season. Let’s take a look at some of the players the Bulldogs have added so far in the transfer portal.

Jamie Kaiser

The first transfer the Dawgs added was Maryland freshman wing, Jamie Kaiser. Kaiser averaged 4.4 points per game as a freshman along with 2 rebounds per game. Coming into the season, Kaiser was a top 75 recruit for the 2023 class and was highly sought after receiving offers from schools like Indiana, Wisconsin, and Virginia. Kaiser struggled this year shooting the ball, but the dawgs are hoping to unlock his potential like they did with their leading scorer Pierre Brooks II.

Patrick McCaffrey

The day after Kaiser committed, Butler added another forward in sixth year senior Patrick McCaffrey. McCaffrey will add some much needed depth to the front court that lacked size and toughness behind Jahmyl Telfort. McCaffrey is coming off a season where he averaged 9 points per game and 3 rebounds. The bulldogs are expecting McCaffrey to add a veteran presence to an already old roster for next season. Look for Patrick to play some small ball 5 as well as four man position.

Kolby King

The most recent addition to the team is combo guard, Kolby King. King comes from Tulane University, where he averaged 10 points a game and shot 38% from deep. The dawgs desperately needed some guard help with senior guard Posh Alexander entering the portal late and Kolby seems to be a great fit for a team that needed shooting at the point guard position. King will be returning to the Big East as he was a freshman at St. John’s before heading to Tulane after head coach Mike Anderson was fired.

Butler is still looking for two more players in the transfer portal and seemed to have focused on adding a shooter and a center to round out the team. If the dawgs can add two more impact players, look for them to make a run at the NCAA Tournament for the first team since 2018.

On Wednesday, May 1 at 11:59 PM the transfer portal officially closed.
