Frequently Asked Questions
1. As the student’s site supervisor, do I need to review the tapes with the student?
No, you do not need to review any tapes with the student. During faculty supervision, tapes will be reviewed. However, you are welcome to sit and review tapes if you have time and would like to share feedback on a specific student session.
2. When should I contact the faculty supervisor?
Please feel free to contact the faculty supervisor at anytime during the semester. We want to have a collaborative working relationship and be proactive in all situations. We ask that you always contact us when you have any questions, concerns, or dispositional issues with the student.

Please feel free to call the School Counseling Office at 317-940-9501 or contact any of us directly. Please find our contact information under the “Contact Us” tab of this website.
4. At the end of the semester, how should I turn in the student’s evaluation form?
You may either send this form directly with the student or mail to our office. The mailing address is: Butler University, School Counseling Department, 4600 Sunset Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46208
5. Do I get PGPs for supervising a student?
Yes, you will be given a letter stating you have supervised a graduate student. This letter will award you with 15 PGPs that you may apply towards licensure. Ultimately, it is up to your school administrator if these PGPs will count toward licensure renewal.
6. Will Butler faculty visit the student during the semester?
We will come for a site visit if the student’s field placement is within 25 miles of Butler’s campus. If the student’s site is outside of this area, we will require the student to provide an additional tape for faculty to review.
7. What is my role as the supervisor during the site visit?
During the site visit, the faculty supervisor will observe the student’s counseling skills. It is our expectation that the graduate student has made arrangements for either an individual or group counseling session to take place during the site visit. As the site supervisor, you are welcome to observe this session too, but you are not required to do so. We do ask that you be available to meet briefly with the faculty supervisor to discuss the student’s growth and development.
