{"id":57,"date":"2011-11-07T22:50:47","date_gmt":"2011-11-08T03:50:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/counselorsupervision\/?page_id=57"},"modified":"2021-01-13T17:04:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T22:04:08","slug":"supervision-101","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/counselorsupervision\/supervision-101\/","title":{"rendered":"Supervision 101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is Supervision?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supervision is a relationship that appears to be somewhat similar to counseling, however it has a different structure and purpose (Campbell, 2000). &#8220;The primary purpose of clinical supervision is to ensure the quality of client care while the trainee or supervisee is learning&#8221; (p. 1).<\/p>\n<p>Clinical supervisors have a responsibility for communicating the skills, knowledge, and attitudes of their profession to the next generation of counselors (Campbell, 2000).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are Qualities of Effective Supervisors?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Effective supervisors need a wide array of competencies and skills in a variety of areas. Supervisors should be confident but not dictatorial, be respected and viewed by others as capable, and advocate for their supervisees; School counselor supervisors also must provide positive models for dealing with power and authority within a school community (Boders &amp; Leddick, 1987).<\/p>\n<p>Please see attached document for a list of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/counselorsupervision\/files\/2011\/11\/Effective-Supervisory-Behaviors.pdf\">Effective Supervisory Behaviors<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0What are suggestions to use in supervision?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/counselorsupervision\/files\/2011\/11\/Change-Process-Assessment-Table.pdf\">Change Process Assessment Table<\/a> can be used to review client sessions with the counselor-in-training.
