{"id":182,"date":"2013-03-18T21:41:07","date_gmt":"2013-03-19T01:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/demia\/?p=182"},"modified":"2013-03-25T21:35:19","modified_gmt":"2013-03-26T01:35:19","slug":"meeting-notes-from-march-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/demia\/2013\/03\/18\/meeting-notes-from-march-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting Notes from March 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday March 18, 2013<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week is <b>Colleen\u2019s Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, March 20, from 12:15 to 1:15 in Jordan Hall (076?)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colleen\u2019s presentation will be about the lessons she has learned from Linda and about what she has learned from the last year and a half of her life<\/li>\n<li>There will be free pizza<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Kate\u2019s Brown Bag Lunch is on Wednesday, March 27, from 12:15 to 1:15 in Jordan Hall (076?)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Will be discussing the Right Girl Movement and will be discussing punk-rock 90\u2019s feminism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tuesday March 26<sup>th<\/sup> 2:30 to 3:15 to meet with Accreditation Team<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Email Hannah if you are interested! <b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We received a concerned email from a Demia member about how communication styles were a bit of butting heads. <b>Here are some rules we want to consider:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you speak often, step back and let other people have their say<\/li>\n<li>Check your privilege, so make sure you are keeping intersectionality in mind and the people who are and aren\u2019t in the room<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t interrupt or speak over other people<\/li>\n<li>Allow a marginalized group its agency<\/li>\n<li>Give someone a chance to explain their views and see where someone is coming from<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*****If there are any more concerns please email Hannah or Kate Langdon****<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Dance Protest next Thursday 28<sup>th<\/sup> at 12:30 to 1:15 pm<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our theme for the protest will be <b>Activism<\/b>!\n<ul>\n<li>We will be honoring past activists and what we want to see activism for<\/li>\n<li>Next meeting we will be making posters! Bring any spare poster board you have<\/li>\n<li>We will also be making a banner to help show a unified message\n<ul>\n<li>Ideas for slogans: \u201cNever be Silent: Celebrating Activism\u201d<\/li>\n<li>If you have any ideas feel free to share them at the next meeting!<\/li>\n<li>If you are interested in making the box for the \u201cBox Campaign\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>The box will be a grievance box of what we feel needs change and what activism we want to see towards those complaints<\/li>\n<li><b>Bring pots, pans, maracas, drums, etc. for the dance protest<\/b> to make some noise and music for everyone to dance to<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We talked about the Steubenville and how the media covered the rape that happened there.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We then discussed about doing a rape culture discussions and\/or events on campus and in Demia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coming up!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>April 6 at 2 pm:<\/strong> Rally outside of the City-County Building to advocate on behalf of Bei Bei Shuai<\/li>\n<li><strong>March 27 at 7 to 8<\/strong> (the location will be announced soon): Lynn Paltrow will be giving a Women&#8217;s History Month talk titled: &#8220;Indiana and the New Jane Crow: The Prosecution of Bei Bei Shuai&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday March 18, 2013 &nbsp; This week is Colleen\u2019s Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, March 20, from 12:15 to 1:15 in Jordan Hall (076?)
