Join the Desmond Tutu Center and the Kheprw Institute for a special presentation that is part of the 2015 Spirit & Place Festival.

Inspired by the Festival’s theme of “Dream,” the event will challenge participants to see their dreams in light of their personal history, calling on them to consider how the challenges or privileges that made up their life helped inform their dreams. Through the sharing of the personal narrative of Allan Boesak, the event spotlights how a man—who became an important player in ending of one of humanity’s darkest moments, the South African Apartheid—was able to rise above the challenges that his life presented and find the courage to dream of a better way forward, a way that embraced the difficult act of forgiveness.

Allan Boesak has been internationally recognized for his influential leadership and activism in the fight against apartheid in his native South Africa.  During the 1980s he worked alongside Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela to promote a more just society and reconciled community. Since then, he has emerged as a global voice for human dignity, reconciliation and social justice.

Before hearing from Boesak, audience members will be engaged in an interactive presentation led by youth from the Kheprw Institute, who went around the city of Indianapolis asking other youth about their current and future dreams for the city. By contemplating one’s “place” in the world, the stage will be set to not only hear Boesak’s story but to hear it in light of one’s own story so as to consider how challenges and privileges shape our personal and collective dreams.
