Butler University and Christian Theological Seminary cordially invite you to join in the official launch of the Desmond Tutu Center’s Youth Fellows Initiative on Thursday, September 24, 2015 featuring Dr. Allan Boesak, Desmond Tutu Center Executive Director, with guest speaker Nadja Halilbegovich. Hor d’oeuvres and networking will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a presentation at 6:30. The event will take place in the Christian Theological Seminary’s Common Room.

The Youth Fellows Program is an empowerment program for young emerging leaders from Central Indiana and South Africa. Youth Fellows will be selected based on their proposed idea for a social justice-related project. The Youth Fellows Initiative supports at-risk youth who want to change and challenge existing norms that prevent their community from achieving equality.

 

Known as the “Bosnian Anne Frank,” Nadja Halilbegovich has brought her message of peace and hope to well over a million people in person across the globe. As a young girl, Nadja endured the war in her native Bosnia and was injured by a bomb at age 13. She shared these experiences in her diary, which was published the following year. After her escape to the United States at age 16, Nadja’s message of peace put her on the same stage with the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and in literary features alongside Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.

 

 

Dr. Allan Boesak is the Desmond Tutu Center’s Executive Director. He is internationally recognized for his influential leadership and activism in the fight against apartheid in his native South Africa. His background gave him firsthand experience of the power youth hold in effecting change, a power he hopes to nurture and foster through the Youth Fellows Initiative.
