The DTC joined many at the opening reception of a poster exhibit celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall at the Irwin Library, 4600 Sunset Ave., Indianapolis, IN. Along with Indianapolis Mayor, Gregory A. Ballard and Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, Sven Schumacher, we witnessed many people of different generations contemplating, discussing, and sharing experiences remembering a facet of history that divided a city and its people. The wall stood from 1961 to 1989 and lead to the events that officially reunified Germany on October 3rd, 1990.
Mayor Ballard and Sven Schumacher were joined on the podium by Butler senior, Julie O’Mara, who spoke to the crowd about her experiences in Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Olivia Grace Wolfe, who read Norbert Krapf’s poem “Questions on a Wall.”
The exhibit was organized by Butler University’s Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The posters will be on display at Irwin Library from February 11-March 6, 2015. It is free and open to the public.
