The Desmond Tutu Center is honored to have Allan Boesak serve as its Executive Director and Chair. Dr. Boesak brings decades of experience working as a theologian, humanitarian, prolific author and advocate for social justice. Having worked closely with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in the struggle to end apartheid, Dr. Boesak’s firsthand knowledge of the Archbishop’s values makes him the perfect candidate to carry these values into the work of the DTC. His background includes numerous board appointments and leadership positions that include serving as President of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, as a founding member of the Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians, and as an advisor to the Apartheid Commission of the United Nations. Dr. Boesak earned a doctorate in theology from the Protestant Theological University in Kampen, Netherlands and has since become recognized as one the world’s leading authorities on liberation theology. In addition to his role as Executive Director and Chair of the Demsond Tutu Center, Dr. Boesak currently teaches courses at Butler University and Christian Theological Seminary and speaks across the country on issues relating to religion, faith, reconciliation and politics.
