It is also important to research the demographics of the school and community my student resides in. These factors play a significant role in determining what areas I would focus on with my student and lead to progress.

Lessons:

My lesson plans were constructed using the Common Core Standards for Science and the Science Literacy Standards. I used mainly scientific informational texts to connect literacy to the content area my student struggles with most. My lessons were also created with the adaptations necessary for a student in special education.

Biddle Science LP 1– In this lesson, I focused on teaching about potential and kinetic energy through bouncy balls. I started with having the student create a bubble chart with the center bubble saying, “Energy is…”. Before our experiment, we read about the transfer of energy to establish background knowledge. After the experiment we compared the readings to what she learned in the experiment and continued to fill out the chart with her new understandings of what energy is.

Other lessons:

Bird Bones– Biddle Science LP 2

Explaining why bird’s bones are hollow, but dense.

Life of a Star– Biddle Science LP 3

Using LitFig charts to help understand the figurative versus literal meaning of the text.

Student Overview and Assessment: ED228 Student Background Assessment– Before I could plan lessons for my student, I needed to study the data provided from ISTEP test scores and writing samples.
