THE LIES I TELL
by EMILY
I can sing better than Rihanna.
I can lift a car with one hand.
I can cut the lights off & make it night.
I can make art better than Van Gogh.
I go anywhere I want.
I can ride snow leopards in the Appalachian Mountains.
I can make skyscrapers appear from thin air.
I can invent something that will change humanity.
I can write a book in a day.
I can fly, turn invisible, & read people’s minds.
I can change the color of the ocean & the texture of the air.
I can make dinosaurs flinch.
I can move mountains with my mind.
I can help everyone & stop pain in its tracks.
I can save the world & be remembered for something great.
MY LIFE
by SIERRA
I have tattoos on my back.
I have glasses; that’s a fact.
I have an afro that’s big and wide.
I hate Bowser; when he wins, I cry.
I love girls; they make me laugh.
I don’t take showers; I take baths.
I hate America.
I am from Germany.
This is all a lie.
I’m telling you why.
I don’t have tattoos on my back.
I don’t wear glasses; that’s a fact.
I don’t have an afro that’s big and wide.
I hate Mario; when he wins I cry.
Instead of girls, I love boys cuz they make me laugh.
I do take showers and baths.
I’m American, not German.
This is my life, twisted in a lie.
JUST FINE
by PAULA
I’m gonna be
just fine
after nights of crying
and
reassuring phone calls.
I’m gonna be alright
gonna
survive this rut I thought I
was stuck in.
I’m tired of fighting
but it’s feeling more like
fight or flight
and I’m even more tired
of running away.
This time
I’m gonna be just fine
felt like the end of the world.
Turns out
it was the start of a new life.
Instead of being held back
I’m
gonna embrace this trial
and face these miles ahead.
Already ran a thousand
I can walk a few more.
I’m gonna be just fine.
Take
some breaths.
I’ll be okay by myself.
Didn’t need anyone before
you came along.
Still don’t need someone
telling me I’m pretty
or smart
or calling me out when I’m wrong.
I know I’m
not perfect but
I’m better off without you
holding me back
holding me down.
What, you think
did me a favor?
Here’s your name on a
plaque.
Hang it where
our picture used to be.
I’m gonna be just fine
believe me.
LIES
by JAMILA
the truth is hard to define
in a world full of lies
you lie to protect the truth
even if the person you’re lying to is you
you lie to cover up the truth
not wanting anyone to know the clues
the good lies stay concealed
but the bad lies are revealed
what’s done in the dark comes
to the light eventually
lying is like a drug
that you can’t give up
A TURN FOR THE WORSE
by MICKAEL
I was coming to school and I seen a
bird following me. Then I went in school.
Then I seen it staring at me again. I run,
then it started running.
After that I lost it.
Then I went home as fast as I
could. Then the next day I went to
school and seen my friends. Then
we went to class and after last
period I left, then had a wonderful day.
Then someone tried to steal my things.
So I ran back and told my mom.
She tried to kill him because he was
trying to kill me.
