  • DON’T CUT, CUT THIS

    by JAMMONICA

    Don’t pick up that knife
for an arm. Pick it up for cutting
    a piece of cake.

I know that you’ve been sad lately,
    but I’m trying to understand
why you’ve been hating yourself lately.
Why can’t you see the beauty of walking
    on that colorful rainbow?

    Don’t pick up that knife
for a leg. Pick it up for cutting
    apples.

I know that you have been
in that dark shadow, that it’s time
to spread your wings and fly.

    Don’t pick up that knife
for a second, I won’t be able to stomach
that decision. Instead, why don’t you wear
a bright bow tie and cut
    the sadness from your life?

    Instead of cutting yourself,
cut some paper or pick up that paper
    and write me a letter,

and I’ll write you a letter.
And I would say, darling, you’re okay.
I smile when you smile. The whole room
lights up. Turn that smile upside.

  • SECRETS

    by JAYMISON

Are some good or bad or both
    Secrets
Are these the lies that rob the truth
    Secrets
That keeps me away from you
Secrets that rob illusion of its reality
Saying that everything will be okay
    Secrets
Keeps us from opening up to the ones we
love fearing that this addiction to this false
love tearing at you saying, you tell someone about me
you’ll lose them, they can’t trust you but you can trust me
by not telling them you won’t be judged
    Secrets
The feeling I get when I have them
    Vulnerable
The feeling I get when I tell them

  • PARIS IN THE U.S.

    by KYLA

    Paris is filled with affection,
    grapes, and small cakes.

Paris has a bunch of charming
    French lawyers who constantly
    debate about how much they
    like you.

Paris is like a fair with
    colors and sweet snacks.

    Paris has chocolates,
    sweetness and more.

    Paris has fun and bunches
    of buns.

    Paris has more than what
we can bargain for. It is
    so bright, and filled with
    delight.

Paris has a mood to set
your heart on fire. To warm
your emotions and spark your desires.

  • STRAWBERRY JELLY & CRÈME

    by KYLA

Strawberry jelly is red like a heart,
    sweet like honey and
    thick like jello.

Strawberry jelly is the center of affection,
the yummiest valentine, the most colorful
    dessert.

    Strawberry jelly has the attention
span of a lifetime. It listens like a sweetie pie and
flirts, ‘til it makes you cry.

    Strawberry jelly is kind
like a flavored red wine. Like a cherry
    on an ice-cream sundae.

    Strawberry jelly is a sugary
song on a sad violin, the
bass of a jazz band, the
    beat of the heart.

    Strawberry jelly brings
    couples together on Valentine’s
Day, so that they can never
    fall apart.

  • SPELL TRAP

    by JAYMISON

    Equality.
Is that what I fought for?
The liberation that was given to me,
it doesn’t feel that I am free.

These abilities that I was born with, the burden
the pain of being held back.

You don’t know the feel, that when
you see the hero inside you but
can’t help the ones that need it
    the most.

    Equality.
Not ever hearing the word that you
    are unique,
just hearing you are all the same.
    You’ll never be different.

    Equality.
I will not accept this. This equality to
subject myself to being equal. I will
be an Emperor and take my Empress
    And claim my nation.
