I ain\u2019t done much of this before
\nBeing a kid and all, not much
\nExperience.
\nBut, I got a whole life to live
\nIn front of me.
\nTaking the path less traveled is no
\nOption
\nBecause I\u2019m not going to be a mere
\nShadow of someone else.
\nI\u2019m gonna make my own footprints,
\nMake my own memories.
\nIf I expect to be anything other
\nThan a splash of paint on
\nMy canvas.
\nIf I expect to make it in this world,
\nI gotta be the best.
\nSo when the world puts it
\nTo the test
\nI\u2019m gonna give it my all.
\nForget being afraid to fall.
\nCause ain\u2019t no one gonna push
\nMe down.

\nBut my head will never hit the

\n3 a.m. and I can\u2019t sleep cause

\nTaken away my right
\nTo marry.
\nJoin the military
\nJust cause I\u2019ve learned to love
\nMyself and the others in my life.
\nTrying to cope with addiction
\nBoth family members and mine.
\nFinding time to finish school, church,
\nFriends, making a chance in this world for myself.
\nI\u2019m trying to hard to be a good
\nDaughter, friend, sister.
\nI\u2019m learning to adore myself
\nAnd, someday, I hope it\u2019ll all
\nTurn out fine
\nThe way the rhymes do in
\nFairytales. I don\u2019t want to be
\nA princess, just a girl with dreams,
\nGoals, a drive to make sure
\nNo more friends get
\nShot in the back and killed.
\nRunning from a man who knew
\nNo mercy.
\nBullets fly faster \u2013 the pleas of
\nForgiveness, apparently.
\nWho says I don\u2019t know pain?
\nRejection? Self-loathing?
\nWho says I haven\u2019t known
\nHeartache and trouble? Depression
\nAnd sacrifice?
\nPoverty and restless nights?
\nDon\u2019t judge me based on where I do
\nOr don\u2019t come from.
\nJudge me based on my aspirations,
\nInterests, choices. Choices I liked.
\nNot choices that were a paradox
\nIn themselves.
\nBecause you don\u2019t always have
\nFreedom in your choices.
\nHear our voices when we
\nRise from our grieving ashes
\nBegging for a cause.
\nHear out begs for change when
\nWe grasp that contrary to
\nPopular belief,
