{"id":1320,"date":"2013-03-27T20:03:42","date_gmt":"2013-03-28T00:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/exclusiveink\/?p=1320"},"modified":"2013-03-27T20:04:58","modified_gmt":"2013-03-28T00:04:58","slug":"black-stripe-white-stripe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/exclusiveink\/2013\/03\/27\/black-stripe-white-stripe\/","title":{"rendered":"BLACK STRIPE, WHITE STRIPE"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>by <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/exclusiveink\/tag\/isiah\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ISIAH<\/span><\/a><\/h5>\n<p>Forced to read literature about things unknown,<br \/>\nlike racism and segregation, to open my blind eyes to things I needed to know,<br \/>\nlearning about Malcolm and Martin fighting interracial crime<br \/>\nlike apartheid or the dark side or similar slavery in its prime,<br \/>\nmy view widened with knowledge of past problems explained in depth.<br \/>\nBlack culture grew as each page got flipped,<br \/>\nand when people of different races said racist phrases I&#8217;d flip.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t wanna know just one side because I&#8217;m racially mixed,<br \/>\nso when I looked in the mirror I didn&#8217;t see a hypocrite.<br \/>\nI&#8217;d read the wrongdoings of both sides in the ethical war,<br \/>\nlike the Black Panthers or KKK hunting for sport.<br \/>\nI was oblivious to the treacherous ways of the past.<br \/>\nBut now I know the past and I live in the past&#8217;s future.<br \/>\nNo more judging\u2014white doesn&#8217;t mean <em>preppy<\/em>, black doesn&#8217;t mean <em>stupid<\/em>.<br \/>\nAfter I read that book, I know<br \/>\nignorance judges by the color of the blanket around the bones,<br \/>\nand since I know I have black stripes and white stripes,<br \/>\nyou don&#8217;t have to be the same color as me to be my family or friend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by ISIAH Forced to read literature about things unknown, like racism and segregation, to open my blind eyes to things I needed to know, learning about Malcolm and Martin fighting interracial crime like apartheid or the dark side or similar slavery in its prime, my view widened with knowledge of past problems explained in depth.
