\nToo young.
\nToo early, they went too early.
\nCandlelight memorial to remind you that
\nBullets aren\u2019t prejudiced.<\/p>\n

We can all take a lesson from that.
\nFocused on who someone wants to marry,
\nHow dark their skin is, how big their lips are,
\nWhether they have on
\nNorth Face or K-Mart;
\nIt\u2019s none of our business.<\/p>\n

It makes me ashamed to be part of this generation.
\nThinking we have to
\nCall everyone out on their old 23s,<\/p>\n

But grandma just couldn\u2019t afford new ones this paycheck.
\nYou know, she\u2019s got them co-pays for her
\nChemotherapy medicine.<\/p>\n

The news is filled with guilty police and celebrity suicides.
\nWhitney Houston, Robin Williams, made
\nBillions
\nAnd it wasn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n

You better toughen up.
\nStep up your game or you\u2019ll get trampled in a stampede.<\/p>\n

But, us?
\nWe\u2019re just another brigade of tired seniors
\nTrudging through.
\nWrite your essay.
\nDo the cheat sheet for the test.
\nCheck your email, waiting on that acceptance letter
\nLike you do every morning.<\/p>\n

It feels like every time I reach for the stars I burn up in the atmosphere,
\nSee, there\u2019s
\nToo much pressure.<\/p>\n

With three hours of homework, a job, sick parents,
\nYou\u2019re still expected to come to school smiling and on time.
\nAnd sometimes I swear it\u2019s all too much,
\nBut that diploma is getting closer by the day, close enough to taste, close enough to frame.
\nAnd we\u2019re hanging on.<\/p>\n

Cause I gotta make a name for myself in this world,
\nPast this town full of wanna be\u2019s,
\nWish I coulda been\u2019s, and
\nGod damn I never was.<\/p>\n

Worry about passing English instead.
\nWorry about the girl who tried to OD because you kept calling her a dyke.
\nWorry about where you\u2019ll be five years from now
\nWithout a bachelor\u2019s degree,
\nBecause you just couldn\u2019t get your shit together.<\/p>\n

\nI\u2019m telling y\u2019all,
\nKeep thinking it\u2019s a game and you\u2019ll come in last.<\/p>\n
