{"id":98,"date":"2011-09-07T17:30:51","date_gmt":"2011-09-07T21:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/?p=98"},"modified":"2011-10-28T11:25:58","modified_gmt":"2011-10-28T15:25:58","slug":"posts-and-pages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/posts-and-pages-98\/","title":{"rendered":"Posts and Pages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Creating a post<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After you have signed in, go to Add New a Post<\/li>\n<li>Create a title for the post and then enter the content<\/li>\n<li>Select the format of the post<\/li>\n<li>If you wish, categorize the post into an existing category or create a new category<\/li>\n<li>Add tags to the post so that users can search for it using keywords<\/li>\n<li>You can preview what the post will look like by clicking the Preview button on the right hand side of the screen<\/li>\n<li>When the post is complete, click publish and the post will show up on the home page<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Creating a page<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After you have signed in, go to Add New a Post<\/li>\n<li>Create a title for the post and then enter the content<\/li>\n<li>If this is a sub-page of another page, select the appropriate parent page from the drop down menu on the right<\/li>\n<li>You can preview what the page will look like by clicking the Preview button on the right hand side of the screen<\/li>\n<li>When the page is complete, click publish and the page will show up on the main navigation pane<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Adding links to posts or pages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start by adding content to your post or page.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight the text or picture you want to use as the link, and click on the chain link icon in the editor.<\/li>\n<li>To link to an outside website, enter the URL address for the site and then click Add Link at the bottom of the window<\/li>\n<li>To link to an existing post or page within your blog, click the drop-down arrow that says &#8220;Or link to existing content&#8221;. Select the post or page you want to link to and click Add Link at the bottom of the window<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-191\" style=\"float: right\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables-300x204.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables-300x204.png 300w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables-1x1.png 1w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables-400x272.png 400w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/tables.png 840w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Inserting a table into a post or page<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Activate the TinyMCE Advanced plugin (See the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/plugins-and-widgets-107\/\">Plugins and Widgets<\/a>\u00a0page for instructions on installing plugins)<\/li>\n<li>Click on settings in the Left Hand menu and then select TinyMCE Advanced<\/li>\n<li>Drag the table toolbar to one of the empty gray lines.<\/li>\n<li>Create or edit a post or page.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the insert table button and format the table as you want it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nCreating a PDF of all your Posts and\/or Pages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Activate the Anthologize Plugin\u00a0(See the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/plugins-and-widgets-107\/\">Plugins and Widgets<\/a>\u00a0page for instructions on installing plugins)<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-205\" style=\"float: right\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/anthologize-parts1-300x190.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/anthologize-parts1-300x190.png 300w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/anthologize-parts1-1x1.png 1w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/anthologize-parts1-400x253.png 400w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/getstarted\/files\/2011\/09\/anthologize-parts1.png 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Click on Anthologize in the Left Hand menu<\/li>\n<li>Add a New Project and give it a Title<\/li>\n<li>Hover over the Project and then click on Manage Parts<\/li>\n<li>Click New Part \u00a0and then select the posts and\/or pages you want to add and then select Export.<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>You can organize your content in different parts if you wish to divide it up. \u00a0For example, you can create a different Part to differentiate between Posts and Pages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Select the project you want and fill in any appropriate data.<\/li>\n<li>Fill in the fields you want to and then select the file type for the export.<\/li>\n<li>Select the final formatting options and then hit Export.<\/li>\n<li>The file will then be created and downloaded through your browser.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/~hag\/screencasts\/2010-08-06_anthologize-hope-greenberg.mp4\">link <\/a>will take you to a video cast that displays the steps described above.<\/li>\n<li>Use Cases:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Bringing together class blogs from a course<\/li>\n<li>Collecting individual student\u2019s blog posts as a \u2018takeway\u2019 for students<\/li>\n<li>As an assignment or class project, having students search and compile posts on a topic<\/li>\n<li>For organizations, an easy way to compile news and updates from the year as a document for use in applying for, or continuing, grant funding<\/li>\n<li>Using WordPress as a drafting space, then compiling the results as a TEI document for forther markup and processing (Your WordPress postings do not have to be publically posted: you can build Anthologize documents from drafts)<\/li>\n<li>Teaching students the importance of creating their materials digitally, especially using standards like TEI. Digital, done right, means multiple opportunities for repurposing.<\/li>\n<li>Pulling together blog postings for a quick ebook that can be downloaded to your ereader device for offline reading.
