Once a person has been diagnosed with breast cancer, their doctors will determine the stage of the cancer to express how far the disease has developed. This staging is important because it helps to determine the best way to contain and treat the cancer. Staging is based on a number of characteristics, such as tumor size, spread of the cancer,and how many lymph nodes are involved.
