People think of respite as a luxury, but considering caregivers\u2019 increased risk for health issues from chronic stress, those risks are a lot costlier than some time away to recharge. Respite is the key to your own well-being. Respite protects your own health, strengthens family relationships, prevents burn-out and allows your loved one to stay at home up to three times longer. No wonder respite is one of the most frequently requested support services for family caregivers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0R<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is for \u201cRest and Relaxation\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Everyone needs a little \u201cR and R\u201d \u2013 especially family caregivers. Relaxing is the best way\u00a0to return refreshed to handle your many responsibilities as a caregiver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as in \u201cEnergize\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Caregiving is often round-the-clock 24\/7. Respite isn\u2019t simply \u201cgetting a few hours off.\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s necessary to help you reenergize, reduce stress and provide care for your loved one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as in \u201cSleep\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Caregivers often have sleep problems. Address sleep problems and insomnia before they\u00a0take too great a toll on your health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is for \u201cPrograms that can help you\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Respite \u2013 which can be in the home or out of the home \u2013 can be hard to find but\u00a0there\u00a0are programs available to help you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as in \u201cImagination\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let your mind run free; read a book; see a movie. You have been so occupied with the nuts-and-bolts of caregiving that refreshing your\u00a0mind will actually help you be a better\u00a0caregiver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as in \u201cTake Five\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;or better yet, take ten.\u00a0 Do you find yourself saying, \u201cI wish I had\u00a0 just ten minutes to\u00a0myself\u201d? Don\u2019t feel guilty.
