The national recommendation is that children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years should have <strong>60 minutes<\/strong> (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day.<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>This includes:\n<ul class=\"list-bullet\">\n<li><strong>Aerobic:<\/strong>\u00a0Most of the 60 or more minutes a day should be either moderate- or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity and should include vigorous-intensity physical activity at least 3 days a week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Muscle-strengthening:<\/strong>\u00a0As part of their 60 or more minutes of daily physical activity, children and adolescents should include muscle-strengthening physical activity on at least 3 days of the week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bone-strengthening:<\/strong>\u00a0As part of their 60 or more minutes of daily physical activity, children and adolescents should include bone-strengthening physical activity on at least 3 days of the week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These guidelines also encourage children and adolescents to participate in physical activities that are appropriate for their age, that are enjoyable, and that offer variety.<\/p>\n<h2>Physical Activity and Academic Achievement<\/h2>\n<div>\n<ul class=\"list-bullet\">\n<li>Students who are physically active tend to have better grades, school attendance, cognitive performance (e.g., memory), and classroom behaviors (e.g., on-task behavior).<\/li>\n<li>Higher physical activity and physical fitness levels are associated with improved cognitive performance (e.g., concentration, memory) among students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyschools\/physicalactivity\/facts.htm\" class=\"broken_link\">https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyschools\/physicalactivity\/facts.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recommendations for Physical Activity The US Department of Health and Human Services provides guidance on healthy physical activity habits.
