FTFW — Turn Around Tuesday

Fat-Talk

Above are some common phrases we use when feeling insecure about our body weight.  Unfortunately, women and men say hurtful things like this to themselves so many times that the body becomes something that “needs improvement” instead of a temple that needs compassion and care.  We are taught to think nothing of these comments if we say them about ourselves but what would happen if we said them to others?  Of course, it would hurt!

whatif

I am a big “what if” person.  Although I believe everything happens for a reason, I love to play the “what if” game to take a moment and reflect on my life.  What if I were able to train for this marathon?  What if I took another language?  The idea of this game is to always think of things you could do, not what you should have done.  The same goes for a positive body image!  What if you were to take all of these negative comments and thoughts about yourself, and turn them around today?  Rather, focus on what your body can do, not what it you think it is.  Let’s practice:

Negative Comment: I have thunder thighs that I hate.

What if I turned this thought around?

Turn Around Thought: Wow, I have some thighs that allow me to do so much, like run races.

For many people, this exercise takes some effort.  However, just like with anything else, if practiced enough you can train your brain to become more body positive and health-focused.  Have a great day everyone!
