Vonnegut actually went there, and so did his father. He wrote for the school newspaper and then went on to become one of America&#8217;s most imaginative and celebrated writers. Often combining humor with social criticism, Vonnegut painted modern landscapes through a speculative lens. He asked us to consider our present by considering the future and the past &#8212; sometimes all three at once.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/mfashortridgeproject\/files\/2014\/02\/Jaymison.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1181 aligncenter\" alt=\"Jaymison\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/mfashortridgeproject\/files\/2014\/02\/Jaymison.jpg\" width=\"319\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/mfashortridgeproject\/files\/2014\/02\/Jaymison.jpg 532w, http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/mfashortridgeproject\/files\/2014\/02\/Jaymison-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He continues to be an inspiration for a lot of our work as mentors in our own writing, so we wanted to share that with the students.
