You can search for classes before registration begins by simply using the \"Search<\/a>button on the Student Center<\/strong>, but you might find it more useful to add the classes you’re thinking of taking in the future to your planner, once you’ve located them. Below are instructions for how to do a basic catalog search, but please review the topic How do I add classes to my planner?<\/a> for more information on saving your selected classes to your planner.<\/p>\n

    1. Login<\/a> and click \"arrow\"<\/a>Self Service<\/strong> > Student Center<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. In the upper right corner of the Student Center, click the \"Searchbutton.<\/li>\n
    3. On the Class Search page, be sure that the Institution appears as Butler University, and select your desired term from the Term dropdown.<\/li>\n
    4. On the Search for Classes<\/strong> page, enter the two-letter subject heading in the course subject text box (or browse the list of subject headings by clicking the \"Select<\/a>\u00a0button). If you know the three-digit catalog number you want, enter it in the Course Number<\/strong> text box. Additional search options are available by clicking to expand the \"Additional<\/a>\u00a0link near the bottom of the form. \"Expanded<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note<\/strong>: If you want to see both open and closed classes for your desired enrollment term, uncheck the Show Open Classes Only<\/em> box.<\/p>\n

      Search example 1<\/strong>: Enter the two- or three-character Subject Area code (like CH for chemistry or MBA or masters in bus. admin.) and the three-digit Catalog Number (like 105 or 573) and click Search. You ‘ll see a list of all open sections of CH 105.<\/p>\n

      Search example 2:<\/strong> enter a Subject area of ID (for Change & Tradition) and a Catalog Nbr of 2, change Is Exactly <\/strong>to Contains<\/strong>, click Search, and you will see a list of all open ID classes with the number 2 in the Catalog Number.<\/p>\n

      Search example 3:<\/strong> enter ‘Geib’ in the Instructor Last Name<\/strong> field, click Search, and you will see a list of all open classes taught by Prof. George Geib for the term.<\/p>\n

      Tip:<\/strong> If you are unsure how to spell the instructor’s last name, only enter the first few letters and change Is Exactly <\/strong>to Contains<\/strong> to broaden your search.<\/p>\n
