Will my grades be imported correctly?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Did your original course\u00a0use the Sum of Grades aggregation?<br \/>\n<strong>Yes!<br \/>\n<\/strong>Importing an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">existing course that uses the sum of grades<\/span>\u00a0(Natural) aggregation works just fine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No!<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you intend to continue to use weighted mean of grades you are fine. \u00a0They will import just as you had them in the original course.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What if I want to change from Sum of Grades to weighted mean of grades?<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Changing aggregation from weighted mean of grades to natural<\/span> will trigger a bug. Read on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moodle has a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">known bug<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that\u2019s been around for a while and it <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">still exists<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the most recent version of Moodle. If a course uses a weighted aggregation scheme, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">switching to natural aggregation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will result in undesired outcomes that are the result of a known bug. \u00a0Specifically your weights will all be adjusted to a sum of 100 and items or categories that used a weighted aggregation scheme originally will be marked as extra credit. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>What is the workaround to fix this if I want to change the aggregation to natural from a weighted aggregation?<\/h3>\n<h4>First &#8211; RECONSIDER creating the gradebook from scratch! If you want to continue along this path here are the instructions to fix this known bug.<\/h4>\n<p><i>Before you begin, be sure to <\/i><i>record your item and category weights<\/i><i>. You can find them in the Gradebook\u2019s Setup tab or menu link in the \u201cWeights\u201d column.<\/i><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the <\/span>Setup<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tab, click the \u201cEdit\u201d drop-down in the \u201cActions\u201d column for the topmost row (the category for the entire course) and then click <\/span>Edit settings<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the \u201cGrade category\u201d section, click the <\/span>Show more\u2026<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> link.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change the \u201cAggregation\u201d drop-down to <\/span>Natural<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and click <\/span>[Save changes]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All weights will be reset to zero and any value previously controlled by a different weighted aggregation will be marked as extra credit (as evidenced by the + sign next to their max grade).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click the \u201cEdit\u201d drop-down in the \u201cActions\u201d column for any item or category marked as extra credit and then click <\/span>Edit settings<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the \u201cParent category\u201d section, click the <\/span>Show more\u2026<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> link.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncheck the <\/span>Extra credit<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> checkbox and then click <\/span>[Save changes]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Repeat this process for any additional items or categories marked as extra credit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the <\/span>Setup<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tab, check the box in the \u201cWeights\u201d column for any item or category you want to be weighted.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fill out the \u201cWeights\u201d fields with the weights you recorded originally and click <\/span>[Save changes]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am importing a course that has\u00a0gradebook\u00a0items set up.
