Grades across items inside a category will be aggregated into a Category Total, much the same way that grades across a course will be agregated into a Course Total. Grade categories can use specific aggregations (e.g. Sum of Grades, Weighted Mean of Grades) within themselves to give you more precise control over how grades are calculated. Finally, they are also useful for weighting grades: if, for example, you have multiple quizzes in a course but want them to all together comprise a certain percentage of the overall course grade, you can create a category to hold them.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In the Administration block, click\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/quickguides\/files\/2013\/12\/2014-01-13-13_47_54-Course_-Video-Tutorial-Example-Course.png\" alt=\"Grades\" width=\"63\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0to go to the gradebook.<\/li>\n<li>From the gradebook, click the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/quickguides\/files\/2015\/07\/Setup-tab1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1513\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/quickguides\/files\/2015\/07\/Setup-tab1.png\" alt=\"Setup tab\" width=\"51\" height=\"27\" \/><\/a>\u00a0tab near the top.<\/li>\n<li>From the Categories and Items view, click the\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-225\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/quickguides\/files\/2013\/12\/2014-01-17-09_22_13-Grades_-Categories-and-items.png\" alt=\"Add Category\" width=\"90\" height=\"22\" \/>\u00a0button at the bottom of the page.<\/li>\n<li>In the Category Name field, enter a name for this grade category.
