Welcome

I am Rachel Wraley. I am double majoring in Middle/Secondary Mathematics Education and Mathematics at Butler University, set to graduate May 7, 2016.5433

This is my online Educational Portfolio. Here I have collected different assignments I completed during my time at Butler that has had a significant impact on my passion for teaching.  I will use the skills I have learned while at Butler to help every student I encounter as a teacher.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher from a young age. I was initially motivated to teach during my seventh-grade language arts course when my teacher cared so much about our class becoming better writers that we forgot we were actually learning. I immediately knew I wanted to inspire other students in the same manner. My eyes were opened to the beauty of Mathematics while learning about proofs in Pre-Calculus; I now want to share this passion with Middle and High school students.

My Background

I was born and raised on the west side of Indianapolis, IN. I went to Wayne Township schools, and graduated from Ben Davis High School with Honors in 2011.  I was a member of the competitive show choir Sounds. In 2011 we were the first show choir from Ben Davis High School to win the State Show Choir Competition.

Other than Math and Teaching, my passions include: reading, singing/playing music, and doing crafty things. My favorite books/series right now are the Robert Langdon Series (in which The Da Vinci Code is the most famous), The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Hobbit, The In Time Sage (of which A Wrinkle in Time is the most famous), The Roman Mysteries Saga, and the Selection Series. I also love doing crafts. It doesn’t matter if it’s scrap booking, crocheting, needlepoint, or paper craft. I love DIY projects.

I am currently a member of the Mathematical Association of America , Kappa Delta Pi an International Honor Society in Education, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
