ED 228 Content Area Literacy in Middle/Secondary Curriculum

ED 228 Content Area Literacy in Middle/Secondary Curriculum was about me learning methods to teach content vocabulary. No student will come into my classroom understanding every vocabulary word perfectly. Just like they learned the English language, I will have to teach them the language of Mathematics.

The course was about the importance of Content Literacy  in Middle/Secondary Curriculum. Prior to the course I had no idea how it would relate to my future Mathematics Curriculum. Now I know that my students must be literate in Mathematics. This is the rationale I created towards the end of my course, when I finally understood the importance of Content Literacy.

During the semester I took this course Shortridge High School was a school with grades 6-12 in one building. Throughout the course I tutored a 6th grade student at Shortridge who was failing the Math portion of the ISTEP. Prior to starting the ISTEP tutoring I was given some academic background information on my student. From that information I created a Student Background Assessment.

Below are the Lesson Plans and Instructional Tools that I created and implemented while tutoring the 6th grade student at Shortridge High School.
