{"id":114,"date":"2016-07-29T19:11:37","date_gmt":"2016-07-29T23:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/reverberations\/?p=114"},"modified":"2016-07-29T19:11:37","modified_gmt":"2016-07-29T23:11:37","slug":"i-am-simply-a-drawing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/reverberations\/2016\/07\/29\/i-am-simply-a-drawing\/","title":{"rendered":"I AM SIMPLY A DRAWING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>by MAE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am simply a drawing.<br \/>\nMy skin is etched in ink pastel\u2014<br \/>\nlips, hair and charcoal to complete<br \/>\nthe shadows beneath my eyes.<br \/>\nI am never still.<br \/>\nI am used to dancing<br \/>\nacross sketchbook pages<br \/>\nwith a smile on my face<br \/>\nand a lyric in my head.<br \/>\nI\u2019m used to inconsistency,<br \/>\nswinging between boundaries<br \/>\nof my comfort zone,<br \/>\nused to wondering,<br \/>\nused to searching for my artist.<br \/>\nIt is my mother, my father, god,<br \/>\nor the giant tortoise shell<br \/>\nin which my universe once existed.<br \/>\nWho knows, maybe it\u2019s not for me<br \/>\nto find out. My thoughts are hidden<br \/>\nwithin the fabric of this paper,<br \/>\nin simple questions like,<br \/>\n<em>Why don\u2019t more Americans use chopsticks?<\/em><br \/>\nand more complex ones like,<br \/>\n<em>What\u2019s so intimate about eye contact?<\/em><br \/>\n&amp; <em>What happens after I die?<br \/>\n<\/em>Lately I\u2019ve been trying to erase<br \/>\nmyself.
