{"id":4938,"date":"2012-10-29T20:13:59","date_gmt":"2012-10-30T00:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/school60\/?p=4938"},"modified":"2012-10-29T20:13:59","modified_gmt":"2012-10-30T00:13:59","slug":"authors-study-and-a-new-science-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/school60\/2012\/10\/29\/authors-study-and-a-new-science-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Author&#8217;s Study and a New Science Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week in Story Workshop, we did an author&#8217;s study of Todd Parr.\u00a0 The students loved reading his books and noticing what made his books unique.\u00a0 Many of them have tried his style in their own stories.\u00a0 Today Sydney shared the start of her book called &#8220;The Family Book.&#8221;\u00a0 She was inspired by Todd Parr and that is evident through her illustrations and the start of her story.<\/p>\n<p>This morning our science provocation included a new tool called a hydrometer.\u00a0 The students explored the tool and made some predictions about what it is for.\u00a0 Many of them thought it had to do with temperature.\u00a0 Some students noticed that it had the words &#8220;instant ocean&#8221; on the side.\u00a0 They were thinking that because ocean water is saltwater the tool may have something to do with salt.\u00a0 We\u00a0 made connections to the note we have from the museum because many students thought the liquid on the note may have salt in it as well.
