Hailed as one of “the world’s leading bel canto tenors,” Lawrence Brownlee—who made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2014 in Bellini’s I Puritani—returns to Indiana where he came of age as a performer at Anderson University. With a voice “perfectly suited for early 19th-century operas,” Brownlee will perform as the King in Rossini’s La Donna Del Lagoat the Met this year, as well as appear with the Opéra National de Paris, Wolf Trap, National Theatre Mannheim opera company, and more. The Butler Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will accompany Brownlee for the first half of the program. For the second half of this special evening, the BSO’s program will include Ravel’s La Valse, Copland’s Quiet City, and more. Don’t miss this opening celebration that launches our 11-day festival!
