{"id":19,"date":"2013-07-23T14:19:32","date_gmt":"2013-07-23T18:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/vocaljazzcamp2013\/?p=19"},"modified":"2013-07-23T14:19:32","modified_gmt":"2013-07-23T18:19:32","slug":"tuesdays-blog-23-july-2013-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/vocaljazzcamp2013\/2013\/07\/23\/tuesdays-blog-23-july-2013-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday&#8217;s Blog: 23 July 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Butler Vocal Jazz Camp&#8217;s 2013 Blog!<\/p>\n<p>Please see Mr. Lee Cheng or Dr. B for guidelines and suggestions on how to get the most out of your blog writing. \u00a0 Taking time to reflect on what you\u2019re learning helps accelerate your learning, and sharing what\u2019s happening helps others reflect on your discoveries! \u00a0Be sure your blog includes some\u00a0<strong>facts<\/strong>\u00a0(what\u2019s happening?), your\u00a0<strong>feelings<\/strong>\u00a0(about those facts), and the\u00a0<strong>future<\/strong>\u00a0(what\u2019s upcoming up?). \u00a0Be sure to include things you&#8217;ve learned, and at least one thing you really want to learn.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of our camp activities thus far include<\/p>\n<p>MONDAY EVENING:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>checking in,<\/li>\n<li>touring the Butler campus,<\/li>\n<li>eating together (pizza!),<\/li>\n<li>taking theory and voice placement tests,<\/li>\n<li>discovering what we have in common!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TUESDAY:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We began vocalizes, sectionals and rehearsals with Dr. Brimmer &amp; Ms. Gordon<\/li>\n<li>We had our first full rehearsal with our rhythm section: Nathan (piano), Cam (drums), Daniel (bass).<\/li>\n<li>We had our first music technology session with Mr. Lee Cheng,<\/li>\n<li>After we blog today, we\u2019ll:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do an improv session with our amazing staff<\/li>\n<li>vocal techniques with Ms. Gordon and Dr. B<\/li>\n<li>wrap up our day w\/ a rehearsal in Schrott with our rhythm section<\/li>\n<li>Commuters will dismiss, dorm folks will go to dinner and evening activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So far, we\u2019ve&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>begun to tackle sight reading any composition (Dr. B\u2019s Six Steps: 1. Text, 2. Rhythms, 3. Text in Rhythm, 4. Pitches, 5. Text in Rhythm w\/ Pitches, 6. Memorize and bring to rehearsal!<\/li>\n<li>experimented with four jazz styles (Blue Skies, I Sing You Sing, The Look of Love, 12 bar blues&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Soon, we\u2019ll explore the jazz ballad, more improvising on the blues (continuing with 12-bar blues), and the history of vocal jazz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Work hard. \u00a0Play Hard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Butler Vocal Jazz Camp&#8217;s 2013 Blog!
