Ashley Kline

Ashley KlineIn your opinion, what are two skills that are useful for an incoming student?

I think time management is really important to learn for a new college student because now school is more than just academics. It’s a lifestyle so it takes balancing more than before college. Another important skill that definitely helped me adjust to college and helped make it great was becoming much more outgoing. I think it’s really important to be able to be comfortable and put yourself out there because that is how you meet people and create a life at Butler.

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would it be?

Academics are extremely important, but at the same time being involved in things going on around campus are really important too because that’s what makes a balanced life on campus. That’s what creates a well-rounded experience at college in addition to gaining so much more knowledge. Don’t take academics lightly by any means, but learn that campus involvement is important too in creating great college memories.

What is one memory from your own orientation/ welcome week experience?

A really vivid memory from welcome week was actually the first night after moving in. It was the first time I had really introduced myself a lot and very repetitively which was new for me but also a good thing to learn because that was the start of me meeting a ton of people! Also however, I met my two best friends on campus on the first night, both of whom I’m rooming with this year so that’s a great memory from welcome week!
