Doris AlmarazWhat was your best memory of your freshman year?

Seeing the entire campus come together and take part in Spring Sports Spectacular. SSS is a 12 hour event benefiting Special Olympics, and everyone comes out to the HRC and Hinkle to take part in different events that run all night. I had so much fun taking part, but the highlight was opening ceremonies where each Olympian’s events are read and Butler students cheer them on. As a freshman, it was amazing to see such a tight knit community come together for a great cause!

Why did you choose Butler for your college experience?

The size was a big factor in my decision. I would never gotten to know the faculty and staff as well as I do if Butler were any bigger. Aside from the student to teacher ratio in the classroom being perfect, I also get a big school feel with many things like the accomplishments of our basketball team and our academic successes that constantly get national recognition.

How did Welcome Week help you transition to Butler and life away from home?

Welcome Week really forced me to break out of my shell, be myself and meet new people through all of the activities that were planned that week. My advice, make sure you go to every event of you might miss out on meeting some great people that may become some of your best friends for your college career and beyond.
