Joshua Gaal

Joshua GaalIn your opinion, what are two skills that are useful for an incoming student?

I believe self-motivation and patience are two important skills for an incoming student. Setting a goal, keeping on task, and being patient enough to achieve that goal will make your classes easier and your first year as a whole much more enjoyable.

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would it be?

Keep an open mind. Do not be afraid to talk to someone new, or pursue something you like. Only good things can come from trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone.

How did Welcome Week help you transition to Butler and life away from home?

I became comfortable with being more independent. Butler does a great job with the SOG program that the transition from pre-welcome week through welcome week, helped me to organize my time better and also learn things on my own. Plus, I kept an open mind and was willing to get out there and get after all of the opportunities welcome week had to offer. Its a easy transition if you are simply enthusiastic about the experience.
