Olivia ToriumiWhat is one challenge you faced during your transition to college life and how did you overcome it?

One big obstacle for me was finding ‘my group’. it can be stressful and nerve-racking, but the best advice I ever received about the matter is to just be yourself, meet as many people as possible, and PARTICIPATE!! It is infinitely easier to meet awesome people out at play fair or block party than in your room with the door closed. Once i figured this out, it got a lot easier and I was able to make some amazing lifelong friendships.

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to be your goofy self. There will be those students who act like they’re too cool for school, but the students who get the most out of welcome week are the goofballs who BRING IT during activities (play fair, the rave, etc.)

What is one memory from your own orientation/welcome week experience?

Swing dancing on the mall after Playfair with people I just met. They ended up being a few of my best friends 🙂
