You don&#8217;t need AdAware any more and you may safely uninstall it from your computer.<\/p>\n<p>The new version of Symantec AntiVirus that we got this summer does its own checking for that kind of thing and it&#8217;s pretty good. I still run Spybot Search &amp; Destroy, which does find a few things from time to time, but AdAware is not finding ANYTHING important any more. So there&#8217;s no point in keeping it and running it any more either.<\/p>\n<p>DO make sure that you&#8217;ve got your AntiVirus program <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>automatically updating the virus definitions and<\/li>\n<li>automatically scanning your entire C: drive at least once a week.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><font color=\"#ff0000\"><font color=\"#000000\">If you&#8217;re using Spybot S&amp;D, it IS possible to schedule it to run automatically. Contact Scott if you want help in setting that up.<\/p>\n<p><\/font><b>AntiVirus Updating<\/b><\/font><br \/>To update your virus definitions:<\/span><br \/>\nRun your Symantec Anti-Virus program (Start&#8211;Programs&#8211;Symantec Client<br \/>\nSecurity&#8211;Symantec AntiVirus Client). Click the LiveUpdate button to<br \/>\nget the updates right now. To schedule regular updating <b><span>(highly recommended)<\/span><\/b>,<br \/>\nclick File&#8211;Schedule Updates. Check the box to enable automatic updates<br \/>\nand select a time that your computer will be on and logged in.<\/p>\n<p><span>To scan for viruses:<\/span> Run your<br \/>\nSymantec Anti-Virus program (Start&#8211;Programs&#8211;Symantec Client<br \/>\nSecurity&#8211;Symantec AntiVirus Client). Click Scan Computer, check the<br \/>\nbox next to &#8220;C: Local Disk&#8221; and click the Scan button to scan right<br \/>\nnow. Click Next, then set a<br \/>\ntime and frequency (daily is best, but weekly is okay) that you&#8217;ll be<br \/>\nlogged onto the computer, but preferably when you&#8217;ll be away from it.<br \/>\nLunchtime is good, or if you have a regular class or meeting. Click<br \/>\nNext and check the box next to &#8220;C: Local Disk&#8221; and then click the Save<br \/>\nbutton.
