To find basic industry information about the industry in which your company operates in please follow these steps:<\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Go to our subject-based
    \n list: http:\/\/www.butler.edu\/library\/index.aspx?pg=287<\/a><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
  2. Click on \u201cbusiness\u201d<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
  3. Review the \u201cinfo.
    \n icons\u201d <\/p>\n

    because the business-related ones are \u201cvalue
    \n added.\u201d  <\/span>Pay particular attention to
    \n what areas of the business environment each database deals with. For
    \n example, Business Source Complete can be used to gather information for
    \n the following business environments: <\/span>Economic Environment, Industry<\/u><\/b>\/Competitive
    \n Environment, Market Customer Analysis, & Global Environment.<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Two
    \ndatabases with industry information are Business Source
    \nComplete and Market Insight. <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

    Using
    \nMicrosoft as an example\u2026<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

    <\/span>Business Source Complete: <\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Type “Microsoft” (or your company’s name) in the find
      \n window<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
    2. Click on the blue \u201cIndustry
      \n Profile\u201d link<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
    3. You should see several reports
      <\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

      <\/span>Market Insight: <\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Click on the \u201cCompany\u201d tab<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      2. Click \u201clookup\u201d<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      3. Type “Microsoft” (or the name of your company) in the \u201cName\u201d
        \n window and click search<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      4. Select Microsoft in the list
        \n and click on the Go! button.<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      5. Close the search box by
        \n clicking on the X.  <\/span>At this point the
        \n interface should have changed to \u201cMicrosoft\u201d (upper left corner)<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      6. Under \u201cRelated Links\u201d click on \u201cSystems
        \n Software\u201d (will be different for each company)<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      7. Top middle of screen should say
        \n \u201cIndustry Research\u201d which indicates you are in the Industry Portion of
        \n this database<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      8. Look for bottom left under \u201cS&P
        \n Industry Surveys\u201d and you will see a report titled \u201cComputers: Software\u201d
        \n in .pdf format. (not all companies will have an industry report; usually
        \n 90% do)<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
      9. Clicking on the report will
        \n open it at which point students can print, save, or e-mail. <\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Business
        \nSource has shorter reports while Market Insight\u2019s are more thorough. Please review both if they are available.  <\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
