“After Cowboy Chicken Came to Town” Reflection

Mr. Shapiro takes us on a story through his journey as a fast-food owner of Cowboy Chicken in China. He talks about how he role models his restaurant off of the American capitalist society and western civilization. Between having shipments come from America because they produce quality food, wine, and deserts, or the American treatment of their customers. He gets on edge with his workers multiple time trying to teach them that the customer is always right, but in reality I feel like this is all satire. This one customer was an absolute burden with his language, and even after burning a hole in the table and eating the product already. Mr. Shapiro insisted to give a refund even though a refund didn’t make sense and he was losing money, chicken, and a customer.  The fried food representing what would be American food is also a hit at how Americans depict Chinese restaurants in America to represent what they think Chinese food is like is also a hit at western civilization. To add the buffet and to add the wedding reception in a restaurant represents what could be going on in America. And to top it off at the end, the image of the boss not caring about the employees shows. Everyone goes on strike to demand better pay, and he just replaces them like it’s nothing.
