As young adults, there is so much that we are trying to learn in so little time before we are out in the real world. Through many mediums like social media, television, and books, knowledge is all around us and there are lots of ways that we can obtain it. In the “Daodejing”, there is so much information in the short amount of lines in each poem.
Personally, there are a few things that I took away from the first 40 poems that I read that applies to all of us. In poem #2, it explains how when no credit is taken, accomplishments endure. I see this as not to be boastful, stay humble, work hard, and great results will occur. I would say my favorite poem so far was #10 with all the different questions. It really gets you thinking and I like the mention of “dark Te”. It explains how to be a good guy, do not hoard, and just be a productive person that contributes to society. Lastly, in poems #23 and #27 it says to have faith in one another and to value the things we have. These two elements are huge when it comes to being a good human and they go a long way. We need to trust each other to really get things done and when we are able to show gratitude, it really makes the world go round. Through the medium of poetry, a lot can be learned through a little and that is why I like it. It is so open-ended yet precise, and I am excited to see what everyone else thinks about these lines.
