Daodejing

In many of the poems in this collection it is apparent that they attempt to describe how one should/should not live their life in accordance to Tao. My favorite section was number 24. This section starts with visual descriptions of how people may try to “show off” or get ahead in life and me boastful, but these are failed attempts. It is then clearly stated “He who boasts achieves nothing. He who brags will not endure.” and then says that these attributes do not provide happiness therefor followers of the Tao should avoid them. I found this very interesting because from the last line, one can infer that Taoism is the pursuit of happiness. I found this poem to be very similar to what people might hear from influential/motivational speakers in the current day. It seems that this is an important reminder that does not grow old.
