Flooding in China 10/12/21

In northern Chinas Shanxi Province, there has been a large amount of flooding that has lead to 15 deaths and 3 missing people. About 1.75 million people have been affected by the floods and 120,000 were displaced from their homes. They received more than 3 times the monthly rainfall for October in just five days. The initial direct economic loss has been reported to be at least $770 million dollars. This area that has been flooded is one of China’s top coal-producing areas. About 60 coal mines have stopped running in the area and are short on the power supply. About 470,000 acres of crops have also been destroyed in the flooding.
