Previous to this reading, I knew little about how Muhammad came to be the religious prophet. I now know that it was around 610 when he first began to get revelations from God via the archangel Gabriel. I had previously thought of these messages as merely dreams, but in the reading it said they were so intense he would lie on the ground shaking and sweating until they were over. He would have the message “burned into his memory”, and were eventually written down, forming the Qur’an. After reading more of his history, I realized the job of a prophet was not easy, and he struggled with it a lot. Not everyone went along with Muhammad’s preaching or were happy with it. Muhammad in addition, had somewhat of a political career, and conquesting Mecca was a large part of that.
After reading “Muhammad and the Believers Movement” I feel like I understand a little more of the origin of the Qur’an and the prophet Muhammad.
