Islamic World

The Islamic world documentary clip featured Dennis Wholey as he interviews Imam Sayed Hassan al-Qazwini, of the Islamic Center of America, about the Islamic religion. They discuss the Five Pillars of Islam, the Muslim view of life after death, sin, and how very few have created an infamous name for a whole group of people.

The one main part of the interview was the discussion of the 5 pillars of Islam. The first pillar is called shahada, or the profession of faith to God and the Messenger of God (Muhammad). The next pillar focuses on prayer, a form of keeping Gods words with you and reminding yourself of Gods answers to questions about life. The third pillar is about alms, or giving. Imam al-Qazwini described how during the month of Ramadan, where people fast in order to become closer to God and those around them, people ultimately relate more to those who aren’t as fortunate and donate the most throughout Ramadan. The fourth pillar was fasting, which again, focuses on becoming more empathetic to those who’re less fortunate as well as to remind themselves of their own privilege. The last pillar is called hajj, and talks about going to mecca where say prayers and visit holy sites.

While the interview covered mainly general topics about Islam, I found it be very interesting and informative, going into details that’re sometimes overlooked.
