Islamic Symbols

A few symbols that are key symbols to Muslims are the star and crescent and Rub el Hizb. The star and the crescent are holy representations of the Muslim religious faith and can often be found hanging over a mosque and in the flag of many Islamic countries. The star and the crescent originated in the Ottoman Empire and were the sign for the Ottoman Turks. The Empire was not originally Muslim but over time has become much more populated with the Muslim religion. The Islamic States chose to adopt the star and the crescent as cultural diffusion. Some can even find the use of the star and the crescent in the Quran even though it was written long before the Empire. Rub el Hizb is two squares turned to make a five-point star with a circle in the middle. This symbol is used to show the ending of passages in the Quaran.  Rub means quarter or one-fourth and Hizb means party or group. Relating to the Quaran it shows that it is divided into 60 equally long sections or Hizbs and each one of those is divided into Rubs.
