Reflecting on Apeirogon

For another class, we read a book called Apeirogon which follows the lives of a Palestinian and an Israeli. This was an interesting take on the two sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict which looks at the religions of Judaism and Islam. While a lot of it focused more on the conflict, I did think the religious elements sprinkled in were very interesting. One thing that I found super interesting was a conversation between one of the main characters and his stepdad who took part in the Six-Year War/Nakba. I thought it was cool to read about the different interpretation of the same event by the different religions. There was also a quote I liked: “[w]e are Semitic, both of us, Israelis and Palestinians together…There was a time for war…but no more” (McCann 171-2).
